Living With Aspergers: Being True to Yourself. You are Awesome!

Hey Lovelies! I have two posts planned for today including another review. I felt it was time for another chapter in my Aspergers book since I missed out January..oops ;) Today is all about being true to yourself and who you are because you are awesome!

So when I first made this blog I didn't except many views at all and just wanted to express myself somewhere. Then I started really enjoying it and found out that my Disney posts got alot of views. I decided that this blog would be focused mainly on Disney since that's what I obsess over. Until last year I only really had one obsession at once but recently I've opened my eyes to loads of other amazing things including Ever After High, Barbie, My Little Pony...you get the point ;) I started posting other things than Disney and realised they weren't as popular. I felt controlled by people again to do what they want and that wasn't the fun I used to have blogging but over the past few days I've realised I can do what I want, it's MY blog! If I wanna post about My Little Pony 5 times in a row I can, if I wanna do kids reviews I can!! I don't care if nobody cares, I do :)

In the past year I also discovered myself and embraced who I am. For the past few years I tried to fit in by loving vintage, floral patterns, fashion, makeup and really girly things. I changed my whole bedroom using floral prints and little girly things like pretty cake stands with perfumes on and little pots with makeup. I changed parts of my look trying out makeup, sandals, straight hair and frilly white socks. I realised throughout last year that that wasn't me! I wanted an awesomely cool colourful bedroom full of things I love like Disney, dolls and video games. I wanted to wear comfy clothes, nike trainers, natural hair and no makeup. If I wanted to wear a Disney top, leggings or shorts and my high tops instead of a cropped top, skirt/booty shorts and sandals or wedges. If you love to dress like that then embrace it, good for you but be aware that there are different people in this world who don't but they are trying.

Don't get my wrong I LOVE girly things like fluffy cute things, princesses, dresses and unicorns but I also LOVE comfy clothes, video games and thrill, adventure and speed! When I read about aspergers, they say some people are tomboys and I always thought I'm not as I love girly things but my girly things are slighter younger than what a 15 year old is meant to like. I'm not concerned with boys, gossip, horror movies, the big top 40 and makeup..I like video games, adventure/fantasy movies, soundtracks and alternative music, childish things and comfy clothes..and I fine with that!

I'm not full toyboy in anyway but I just don't seem to care right now about all those important teen girl things that your meant to love! I will use any excuse to wear a tiara and look like a Disney princess and you won't see me in a football top anytime soon but I won't be perfecting my makeup either! To concluded I'm abit of a mixture and that is super awesome in my opinion and I LOVE myself no matter what!

Living with Aspergers: Coping with Christmas! ♥

Hey Lovelies ♥ Christmas is here and I decided to keep my Living with Aspergers post in theme this month by hopefully writing tips for coping with Christmas. The reason I say 'hopefully' is because I find it hard to cope too so I also need help! Anyway Christmas is coming in thick and fast and soon it will be the big day but the run up to Christmas and the actual days can be quite major for people with Aspergers. Now again this post is very personal to my aspergers and I know everyone is different so this might not apply to everyone, but I'll give it my best shot :)

So at this time of year everyone seems particularly cheerful and sociable, which is great but I actually seem to feel less sociable really. For the past month or so I have been off school as I just don't want to talk to anyone or see anyone really except my close family. Christmas is such a busy time of year and it just makes me want to stay inside in my little bubble alot of the time, but Christmas is actually a wonderful time of year to celebrate and enjoy all different festivies activites.

TIP 1 - Go out and enjoy the festivies that Christmas offers!
Now this may sound HUGE and I know it is but I've been in for a month or so just in my little bubble of goodness and last weekend me and my family adventured to a Christmas Market. It was crowded with people and at times I wanted to cry but I stayed with my family all the time and linked there arms so I was always safe and guess what I lived! It was a massive step but I didn't roll up and die..surprisingly! I actually really enjoyed myself at points in the evening and it was a nice time with my family :)

TIP 2 - Do your Christmas shopping early or go out in the late evening!
I really recommend going shopping in general at the end of November/early December (or even eariler, depending on how you deal with crowds) as it will start to get very busy nearer Christmas comes as people have to buy things and food. I also recommend going out in the evening as shops aren't normally as busy and are much quieter :)

TIP 3 - Try and do other things that you love to do, keep yourself busy!
This one seems kind of ovibous but it's harder than you think to move your mind from the main event. Try as best as you can to do other things you enjoy to try and forget about how excited or stressed you are. You can even write christmas cards, make decorations, watch movies..anything to keep yourself busy then time will hopefully go abit faster :)

TIP 4 - Write lists..lots and lots of lists!
As an aspie I LOVE writing lists way too much so I suggest write some lists of things to do, things you need to do, things you'd like to do even the old christmas list! Writing lists makes me quite happy and it can help me sometimes put everything in perpective and seem not quite as big :)

TIP 5 - Don't expect to much and be over-ambitous just be happy and smile in the moment!
You don't have to be overally social or chatty just because it's Christmas. You can still have your personal bubble space to come down from the events and relax, just don't expect too much of yourself and be happy in the moment. Alot of people just make Christmas this massive day of the year but just keep it small and happy so that you don't have the massive expections that other people do, as you might not be able to handle it all, like me :) Just be HAPPY and SMILE in the moment ♥

Right that's all the tips I can give at the moment as I know I find coping hard at Christmas anyway so these are just personal things that I think might help :) Again, everyone is different and they might not work for you but it's worth a shot! If everything fails just watch Elf..literally it will just make you smile and laugh :')

Living with Aspergers: Changing Your Destiny and Believing in your Dreams ♥

Hey Lovelies ♥ I'm sorry it's been over a week since I last posted but I've been busy and haven't really been in the mood but I'm back! I have at least 3 posts I wanna do stacked up before I have to start thinking so get ready for that :) I also hope you like the little change I've done to the blog, I felt it was getting too busy and crowded so I went for more of a basic theme and used a picture by David Gilson for my banner. I love his art so you should check him out here and here! Anyway I felt it was time for another 'Living with Aspergers' as I want to do one every month and didn't want this month to fly by without one ;)

Anyway let's stop rambling...This month's topic is Changing your Destiny and Believing in your Dreams. I'm going to use 2 characters to help me this time just like Elsa did last month (she will be coming back) and they are Rapunzel from Tangled and Raven Queen from Ever After High. They both tie into my topic as Raven Queen is the daughter of the Evil Queen and her destiny is to be a villain in Apple White's (daughter of Snow White) fairytale but she doesn't want that, she wants to change her destiny. Tangled is about believing in yourself and your dreams so I thought Rapunzel was a good character to use :)

Over the past few weeks I've had plenty of talks about my future since I'm in Year 11 and college is right around the corner. Now as an aspie I've been told and I've read that you're not meant to suceed really. Some do, don't get me wrong but the general look is that aspies find it hard to do things for long periods of time and prefer to be at home doing what they wanna do but I wanna change that! I wanna make a future for myself and change my destiny. Now using the word 'destiny' you might think I talking about fantasy as you don't use that much much but I'm not..you can change your destiny, life or fate..whatever you call it!
Just like Raven Queen, she is expected to just fall into the villain roll and follow her destiny but she doesn't and she becomes a 'rebel' as she wants to change her destiny. She may suprise and have to persuade people on the way that she's making the right choice but it's worth it.

I have quite big ambitions to be honest. I want to go to college, then university so I can do the International Disney College program in Florida then be a graphic designer..big right?! Alot of people look at me in a funny way when I tell them as they think your really going to manage college and moving to Florida for a while then a proper job and I just smile. These are my DREAMS, if I work hard they may come true but they aren't guaranteed and I know that but I'll try my best. When I mention wanting to work in Florida for a few months I sometimes don't get the best reaction because as an aspie I find normal life hard but I would do anything to work for Disney. Disney teaches that you have to work for your dreams, they don't just happen..you have to face fears and believe in yourself.
Just like Rapunzel, she has been trapped in a tower for 18 years and dreams of seeing the floating lights. She has to take the chance when she meets Flynn and she faces her fears of leaving into the big world and it pays off. She has bumps along the way but it works out.

My personal advice other aspies all over is just believe and know your limits. Have dreams but know you will have to work to make them happen. It's ok to change your destiny and stand out, embrace you and your quirks! Even though my 'disablility' may want to limit things for me, I don't and I will chase my dreams until I reach them.
I did this today on Photoshop..my first edit and I don't think it's too bad!

Living With Aspergers: Conceal, Don't Feel, Don't Let it Show ♥ Having an Invisible Illness ♥

'Conceal. Don't Feel. Don't Let it Show.'

If you haven't been living under a rock for the past 9 months or just haven seen Frozen then you won't know this quote but I know alot of you will have. This means ALOT to me. When I first saw Frozen I knew it was going to be powerful but I didn't know how much I would relate to it. I know alot of people say 'I relate to Elsa' but I really do.

Elsa has ice powers which are invisible unless she shows people. She has to keep them concealed to keep herself and others safe but mostly so she doesn't stick out. This means Elsa has to stay in her room till her coronation as Queen of Arendelle. She is scared of her powers as she knows they can do so much and she doesn't know how to control them. She feels alone and an outcast in this big world.

I identify with this as I have had Aspergers all my life but I only found out in October/November last year. My invisible illness didn't affect me like Elsa till I was in Year 8 in secondary and was still loving childish things and obsessing. I hating talking with my other friends about teen things like romance and drama..it bored me to be honest. I felt alone and outcast for a long time and even mad at time when people said I have nothing wrong with me.

A lot of girls with aspergers mask their illness which makes it hard to diagnosis just like Elsa and her gloves. I wore the average teenage girl mask for 3/4 years but never felt comfortable or myself during this period..I was someone else..I was fake. I just felt like Elsa does at the coronation when she has to conceal her powers. She had to take her gloves off when picking up the royal scepter and her fear begins to show.

Having Aspergers is quite hard sometimes as people don't know you have unless you either tell them or show it. If I was the jump around and speak in my childish manner like I do at home, outside or at school people would ask but I don't. While I'm at school I'm still wearing that mask although since my diagnosis I have embraced my aspergers and obsessions. I act differently now than I use to..I LET IT GO.

And that's leads me onto my next subject which is about Letting it All Go so another Elsa related post will come. I'm not saying Elsa has aspergers by the way because she doesn't in any way, in my opinion she suffers with anxiety and depression due to having to conceal, be alone and not be herself for a matter of years. I have and still do suffer with both and I feel Elsa is a perfect example to use :')

Having a hidden illness isn't funny and is extremely hard because people don't take you seriously as you it isn't physical. I want more invisible illnesses to get uncovered as it's serious and we need to be heard. We aren't invisible and we are still people..it's just us.

Anyway...my advice for this post is to never conceal unless you have to for a particular reason. You are you. Be Yourself, everyone else is taken ♥

Living With Aspergers: Feeling Overwhelmed and Excited ♥

Hey Lovelies ♥ I was looking at my recent blog posts and saw that alot of people view my aspie ones like my recent chessington one. Now if you can remember...it's was AGES AGO...I wanted to start my own like series of posts called 'Living with Aspergers'. I did an intro but never did another post as I got super busy but now I'm happy to say I'm gunna try again and post one of those every month as I want to help others and make aspergers more aware to people! I'm wanna change the way people think about this and how people can help ♥ It may not be your kinda thing and don't worry I have more disney and things coming but I felt like doing this today :') I'm going to be writing this on a personal level so if you are a fellow aspie and are reading and thinking 'nope this isn't me' it might not be, everyone is different!

Anyways! Today's topic as you can read is 'Feeling Overwhelmed and Excited', now to a non-aspie this might sound like something you can handle in everyday life but this is a big thing to me and alot of other aspies. BTW...I'm gunna try and NEVER use the word normal as nobody is normal or perfect!

I get very overwhelmed and excited over small little things that don't mean much like finding a disney book randomly or getting a present. When I say excited I don't mean like can't wait excited, it's more of a suprised excited. I have to jump around alot and even roll on the floor sometimes as I just can't contain my excitement and need to express it someway. I also get excited over things that are much too young for me and believe me I know it! I know that the disney princess clips in Claires are not aimed for 15 year olds but I have learnt not to care because I love them.

I also find rolling in a tight duvet helps tons! It might sound totally stupid but I've always loved it for years and now I know why as it is a common love/help with aspies. Believe me if you feeling overwhelmed and don't know what to do with all your hyperactive energy, just roll tightly in a duvet for a few minutes and you should feel so much better. I sometimes keep in my duvet for 1-2 hours!
This one sounds really stupid but stroking actually helps. I love to be stroke like an animal even as it relaxes my tense bones, makes me feel calmer and helps my breathing.

My Dad taught me a quick breathing exercise which we do when I get too over excited or overwhelmed. You put your hands together in a praying postion I guess and push up while breathing in, bring yours arm slowly down while breathing out. It calms me down alot and helps my control my breathing.

I think rap up my post today with one thing...I personally HATE when someone asks if I ok when I'm over excited or overwhelmed as I don't know what to say. I'm feeling over active and probably pretty out of it sometimes so asking me that won't help. I suggest just trying to calm me down or using one of the things above.

I bet all my friends and family reading this are cringing or something as the things that happen to me I don't normally share so your my first audience I guess. I'm doing this to help others and get aspergers known more. I have plenty more to come and hope you enjoyed this one :') I decided to use some disney pics and things to make this slightly more interesting ;)

Anyways bye lovelies ♥
